It's Chef Gracie, and welcome back to the Song Soup Menu! It has been almost a year since something new has been added to the menu, but I believe good things take time, and this was worth the wait in my eyes. Today I bring to you a super talented musician named, Euology. I have stated a few times on my social media that I don't plan on being able to have an interview every single time there is a new menu post, but I was lucky to be able to reach out to Euology on social media and speak with him about himself as a musician, his music and everything else great that you are getting to see here today! So thank you Euology for your kindness to respond to me, and for being so patient with me. Interview: A moment with Euology.
Welcome to The Song Soup Menu, Euology! Could you please introduce yourself to everyone in the way you see fit- as a person and a musician?
Heyho, my name (or artist name) is Euology, and I’m just someone who probably spends far too much time making music than releasing it.
A question I think is very important to ask the creator of their own music is, would you categorize your music under any specific genres? If so, what would those be?
I try to make two types of genres of music. The first is ambient because I think that it’s a genre that’s really underrated but is growing more popular thanks to Tik Tok and its algorithm. The second genre is jungle, which is a more relaxing subgenre of dnb which you would usually hear in the 90s/ early 2000s.
Can you tell us a bit about your name, Euology, if there is a backstory and how you chose it?
The funny thing about this story is that it has nothing to do with music at all. On my 11th birthday I got a 3DS and that required a username. I thought about what would be a cool name to have. Unfortunately me being a bit of a nerd at the time I thought of geology, which seems like a smart subject, then took part of my real name and created “Euology” and it’s stuck for over a decade since.
I always love to ask how musicians discovered interest in music, and how it led to them creating their own. Could you give us your thoughts?
Admittedly I have to give a lot of credit to my family. Both my parents are big guitar players so music was always around me.
As I grew older I started picking up instruments (e.g trumpet and piano around 7 and saxophone when I was 11/12).
I didn’t start properly making music until I was a teenager. I’m from the uk where we have to do GCSEs and have to pick specific subjects, one of my choices was music.
As part of my coursework we had to make our own music. I realized then I was a bit different to my peers as while they would make pop/rock/rap beats/songs, I really just wanted to make ambient stuff because I found that cooler.
I released my first track in 2021, although I was very inexperienced in making that type of music I was making and it isn’t my best work shall we say. Over time I worked on what it was I wanted to make and after taking a 10 month hiatus I came back and haven’t looked back since.
How do you come up with the titles for your songs, and does it come before or after the creation of the song itself?
To be completely honest, a lot of it is random. I’ll have a sort of vibe of the name in mind but it usually isn’t decided on until I’ve confidently finished the track.
I suppose the mood of it plays a part. For example, (latest single depending on the release of this) “Cherish these moments”: the name came down to the cover art. I took that photo in a botanical garden in Copenhagen last year. My thoughts were that seeing two butterflies on the same plant together chilling was a nice moment to see, and something to ‘cherish’ I guess.
When looking at the cover images for your music, I noticed that some of these pictures seem like they could have been taken by you yourself! Am I correct in assuming so? How do you go about selecting these for your music?
Yes! Most of them are taken by me (with a little bit of editing as well). I’m a big fan of nature, especially just the big landscape of it and I find it tends to fit well with the ambient tracks I make. Ok the contrast, the cover arts for ‘Fresh air’ and ‘Logic’ are just screenshots from old racing games I found with a little editing.
In terms of choosing which one to use, it more comes down to the editing of the picture and deciding which edit fits the mood of the track better.
Your first album, Elseworlds, came out April 26th, 2024 (the current year it is as these questions are being presented to you). What was the process of making your album like? We can see some previously released singles within your album included, such as “Tethered” and “It’s been a while”. Did you have any intentions of the album during the times those songs were released?
Technically ‘Elseworlds’ isn’t my first album: I released one in 2021 and 2022 however I took them down because in retrospect it wasn’t my best work and not to the standard I put myself up to.
The album went through a lot, and I mean A LOT, of transformations for the year leading up to it. It went through different names with different tracks and genres, and it was going to be a much bigger project overall. Ultimately I decided to stick to 7 tracks and focus on ambience as the genre.
Funnily enough, ‘Stations’ and ‘Fresh air’ were supposed to be singles for the album as I had in mind that the album was going to be jungle and ambience. I have an unreleased track that was supposed to be the next single but in November I made ‘Tethered’ and fell in love with it so much that I released that instead.
By that point I knew it was going to be an ambient album. The next single was originally going to be “I wish things were different” but changed my mind to “It’s been a while last minute”. Tldr I can’t stick to a plan to save my life.
As seen on your Spotify biography which I will directly quote, “I post when I can so yeah…”. I am quite fond of this statement actually. Speaking for myself, when I can observe a musician that shares their music on their own terms, one who shows authenticity along with obvious uniqueness within the sound of the music itself- I certainly feel inspired by them.
Even so I must ask, do you have any goals in mind when putting out your music? Is there a way you wish to make listeners feel when coming across your music?
I wish the bio I made was as deep as you’ve described it, but it quite literally was just “I’m quite busy in my life so if I can I will lol”. And even now it’s still true to an extent.
When I started making music when I was younger I loved the idea of being a famous artist. I would still like that, but with the genre I make it would be more internet famous rather than in-person famous. A good example I think I’d like to be is Aphex twin. We both make similar genres of music and a lot of my stuff is inspired by him.
Similarly, I’m also making listeners feel the way they would listen to an artist like Aphex twin. Some tracks are happy, some are silly, some are relaxing, and some are just down right somber (in my opinion).
But at the same time, I like the idea of listeners being able to make their own interpretation of my music and take of it how they will.
Are there any current thoughts of another album anytime soon, or possible ideas for one after just releasing your first this past April?
I don’t want to say anything too much about another album, as I’m still figuring out what another album would be. I think once I have 100% decided on an idea, then I can go from there. For now, I’m just releasing a few singles and seeing where things go from there.
I think there’ll probably be one next year, that’s the goal. But whatever the album looks and sounds like is whatever comes in the future I guess.
To conclude I want to ask you something very simple, but truly special to each musician as an individual. What does music mean to you in general? What meaning do you feel behind your music as Euology, that you have created and continue to create?
Music is so important. As listeners and artists we feel attached to it.
For artists, it’s their creation, something they’ve put time and effort into, and are ready to show the world what they’re made of.
For listeners, it’s something to latch onto, whether it’s the art or the artist, whether that be how relatable it is or just appreciation of the art.
Music has and always will be important as long as we treat it as important.
In terms of my music, I want people to appreciate it. That’s all. It could make you happy, relaxed, nostalgic, maybe even emotional. But however you feel about it, I just hope they appreciate and see the music that I make. I think that’s what every artist wants at the end of the day.

To be able to create your own music and present it to the world can seem like a scary thing to many people, it is something that is personally created and I am sure holds much meaning to the artist themselves.
