Welcome back to The Song Soup Blog’s album of the month! It is Chef Gracie and we are officially three days into November. I personally do not celebrate Thanksgiving, but in place of it I am thankful for rapper cupcakKe’s newest album drop on October 24th, called The Bakery with 16 glorious songs!
cupcakKe is spelled c, u, p, c, a, lowercase k, uppercase K, e. You can find this lower and uppercase K similarity in the spelling of her new album as I stated before- The BakKery. Birth name being Elizabeth Eden Harris, cupcakKe was born May 31st, 1997 in Chicago, Illinois. Getting started with poetry in church at only 10, when she was 13 cupcakKe was told by a fellow church attendee that she should get into rap music- and that she did. She was able to start posting songs in 2012 (15 years old), gaining fans through her first viral song “Gold Digger” on Facebook and YouTube at the time. Fast forwarding to September of 2019 she hosted an emotional Instagram live talking about how she would be quitting music, removing her discography off of streaming and canceling her tour she was on at that point in time. She talked about her reasoning, mostly focusing on how there were a lot of young people singing along to her nsfw songs which made her feel like she was potentially “corrupting the youth”. Along with this she also expressed how after coming out with a more sexual song, she’d shortly after put one out that showcases her rapping talents- still feeling as though the nsfw is more known than these other songs. cupcakKe also opened up about her issues with gambling, as well as struggles forming genuine relationships with others where she felt “used”. Even with a hugely supportive fan base, herself having written various songs defending of the LGBTQ+ community, sexually free lyrics and inclusive music videos- cupcakKe still felt as though she was being judged and was not able to be her own self. From the research I did online it seems she had deleted most of her social media but came back about two months later. cupcakKe would drop singles and be featured on other artists tracks from 2020 to 2024, where on June 28th, 2024 she released her 16 song album Dauntless Manifesto.

There are so many ways to describe the rapper and artist cupcakKe, but the most important thing I have to say is that she is a beautiful mega talented rapper and should be known first and foremost for that- alongside her sexual and humorous lyrics. Her honest and impressive lyricism, fun and free musical personality, ability to be unapologetically herself, as well as advocacy for many causes and support that fans get through her songs is what makes cupcakKe a true generational, inspiring music artist.
